Leadership Presentation Game

Layout
We will divide the class into teams. The teams that everyone is in for their group work would work fine, or we could make all new groups, adding a different challenge.  There will be blank pieces of paper laid out on the floor in a grid of 10 x 10.  There will be one correct way to get to the other side by walking across the paper.  The path is unknown to the players and adds the elements of trial and error, memory, teamwork, leadership, and competition.  Each team will choose a member when it is their turn to try to get to the other side of the papers. Their turn lasts as long as they do not step on a square that is not part of the path.  The first team to reach the other side wins!  We will also add "hot squares" which will be off the path, but in which case the player steps on one, they will have to answer a general knowledge question taken from class material.   Their teammates can yell answers to them, which can be helpful or turn into chaos.  If they answer the question correctly, they will have a chance to redeem themselves and find the path again.

Agenda for 10/22:

1. Leadership book presentation: We will concentrate on the five core skills of emotional intelligence. Each member of the our team will explain one of the core skills in front of the class. We will define each skill, talk about its purpose and the ways people can develop it and apply it in a real - life situation. Creating a Power Point presentation with the main ideas is also on our agenda. We also plan to create a handout for the class attendees.
*Knowing Yourself - Erica
*Maintaining Control - Robert
*Reading Others - Eva
*Perceiving Accurately - Tabitha
*Communicating with Flexibility - Fernando

2. We have already chosen a leadership game and will post its basics and rules.

3. Our team participated in a class game where we had to work together and create a stable structure for a raw egg. The structure had to be built well to keep our egg safe after being dropped from a two story building. We all came up with innovative ideas and the creation was very unique. For a moment we thought our egg would not make it, but it did survive. It was great fun!

Team Members: Erica Gallardo, Eva Georgieva, Robert Gonzalez, Tabitha VanDine and Fernando Vicente

Organization:Green for All” – national organization established to create green jobs for people in struggling communities. The organization is based in Oakland, CA – area known for its high crime, poverty and air pollution rates. The main goal of the organization is to “beat pollution and poverty at the same time” (Van Jones – founder&president).

Purpose of Our Team: Educate ourselves and inform others about the current problems in our community. Try to make a change and be involved in the social and environmental movements that fight for a better future for all of us. The fonder and president of the Sierra Club, Carl Pope says that “ not many people are putting themselves on the line” towards a better day for our planet and society, and we agree. Working on this project is a chance for us to show that everybody, in their own way and abilities, can contribute for a green, crime and poverty – free future.

Team Rules:

  • All of us agreed that class absence of a team member would result in a mandatory $10.00 fine that will be deposited in our charity fund.
  • All of us agreed to fully commit to the two projects (the chosen organization and the leadership book project) and keep up with class assignments and homework in order for effective group discussion and fulfillment of our goals.
  • All of us agreed that the decisions made by the group should be unanimous and the best ideas will be chosen through the method of brainstorming.
  • All of us agreed that we should all contribute equally to the projects and most importantly give our best efforts.
